Pauline Flynn, Visual Artist/Poet
New Work , Riband Series 2020 - 2023
These new paintings began in response to a few military medal ribbons in Limerick Museum. My work is abstract but earlier paintings were painted on Japanese handmade paper (Washi) mounted on board. They was layered, textured and gestural with strong colour. This new work is on canvas, using flat colour, elements of pattern and explores geometric abstraction. The surface is flat, painted on canvas and references nothing outside of shape, colour and composition.

My palette is influenced by Japanese aesthetic of colour and the shapes emerged during the process of developing the imagery and many fit together in a modular way.
